Guidelines for Temps
These guidelines will ensure that you have a productive and positive working experience as a Student Temp.
Orientation
Complete the Workplace Essentials (PDF) and Orientation to Quality Customer Service (PDF) to provide you with some general knowledge of expectations as a temp.
Representing the Career Center
As a Student Temp, you are an employee of the Career Center and are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner. You are responsible for complying with Federal, State, and University policies. You are also responsible for following department policies and rules of the department for which you are temping.
Punctuality
Always be punctual. Treat your supervisor like a supervisor for any other job. If you're running late, let them know. They'll appreciate your professionalism. Also, please inform the STS staff if you will be late to an assignment.
Reliability
Complete your job assignments to the best of your abilities. If for any reason you are not able to work any of the days you are scheduled, contact the supervisor at your assignment as soon as you find out. Also, contact Student Temporary Services as soon as possible, so we can find a replacement.
Getting paid
All temps must complete a hiring packet if the student has not worked for the University in the past 6 months. Time sheets are due every other week. To access your time sheet, log in using your Campus Connect username and password. The additional password needed is provided to you in the assignment confirmation e-mail that you receive once you have been assigned to a temporary position.
Stay in touch
Update Student Temporary Services with your schedule each quarter, to ensure that we can assign you to jobs which work for you. At the beginning of each academic year, students interested in remaining or becoming part of the Student Temporary Services, must fill out a new application. Contact Student Temporary Services if you get a part-time job or if you are no longer interested in temporary work.
We welcome your feedback about your temporary assignments. If you work on a project or with a department you'd like to work for more often, let the Student Temporary Services staff know and we'll try to get you the assignments you're seeking. Likewise, if you ever have a bad experience on a temporary assignment, please let us know right away. We want your working experience to be positive.
