FAQs About Student Temporary Services
How do I apply?
Apply for the Student Temporary Employees position on the Online Student Employment System. The Student Temporary Service (STS) staff will contact you for an interview if/when an assignment is requested that meets a student's availability, skills and knowledge.
How do I get a temporary assignment?
Departments that need temporary help contact the Student Temporary Service (STS) to put in a request for a student temporary. The STS staff uses a database to search for all students with the necessary skills and availability. The staff then contacts students who meet the requirements to offer an assignment. Students who are contacted have the option of accepting or declining the assignment. If a student is not available for the assignment, the STS staff will call when the next appropriate assignment is received.
Temporary jobs can last anywhere from a day, a week, or even an entire quarter. In fact, some temporary positions may lead to permanent positions.
How do I know what assignments I am qualified for?
The STS staff screen applicants and will confirm skills levels and availability in the interview and before offering a position. Students are able to determine the types of positions they are qualified for by examining the job descriptions identifying temporary work.
How much do Student Temporaries earn?
Positions pay based on the skills they require. See the listing of Student Temp positions and wages.
How do I get paid?
Pay periods are every two weeks. On the first assignment, if a student temp has not worked for the university in the past 6 months, they will need to make an appointment with the Student Temporary Services staff to fill out a Hiring Packet. When submitting a hiring packet, two forms of acceptable identification will be required.
If a student temp has worked for the university in the past 6 months a hiring packet is not required.
Student temps must also meet with a Student Temporary Services staff before starting an assignment to pick up paperwork with pertinent information about the temporary assignment.
Are there special guidelines for being a Student Temp?
