Certification in Other States

If you wish to become certified in another state, you must apply for a teacher certificate/license/credential in that state.

Many states are parties to the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification Interstate Contract. This agreement (commonly called "reciprocity") allows educators who hold certificates or licenses in one of the participating states to obtain analogous certification or licensure in any of the other participating states.

Applicants should note that individual states may have special conditions upon granting certification, for example, a state certification test or demonstrated knowledge of state history. Such conditions vary from state to state; you should contact that state's board or department of education for more information.
