Part Time Jobs for Education Majors

It is essential for you to gain practical experience with children or teens in order to build your teaching skills as well as your resume. Fortunately, there are many kinds of part time jobs available to education majors, including:

Teacher's Assistant Positions

There are many types of teacher's assistant positions in schools. You should apply directly to the school principal for these positions. In Chicago Public Schools, you can also apply at the Employee Support Personnel Office (125 S. Clark). Or, visit Chicago Public Schools Human Resources: look for Educational Support Personnel.

Coaching

Coaching is an excellent way to build your marketability while working on your teaching certificate. In order to be a coach in Illinois, you must be either a certified teacher or possess Coaching Certification from the American Sport Education Program. For more information about ASEP Certification, visit the web site of trainer Mike Small; click on ASEP Coaching Certification.

Park District Positions

The Chicago Park District has many programs for children and teens from arts and crafts to yoga. They are seeking to staff them year round. Visit their web site for more information or call their job hotline at 312-747-1513.

Tutoring/Mentoring

There are many opportunities to tutor/mentor children and teens in Chicago. Check out Tutor/Mentor Connection.

DePaul's Tutoring Program also hires DePaul students to tutor children in Chicago Public Schools.
