How to Build a Portfolio

A professional portfolio provides you with a tremendous resource for showcasing your work skills and experiences to an employer. A portfolio can serve as a complement to your application and job search process. Portfolios can be physical or virtual (online), and are utilized by many different majors and occupations. At this workshop, you’ll learn how to conceptualize and compile an effective portfolio. You’ll be introduced to basic components and receive guidance on popular methods for organizing a portfolio.

How to Build a Teaching Portfolio

Note: This workshop is open to students and alumni in DePaul’s School of Education only.

Teaching portfolios provide an avenue for you to show the depth and breadth of your talents as an educator. This workshop will help you understand how to build a teaching portfolio that provides clear evidence of your knowledge and skills related to teaching. You’ll learn about the recommended documents and artifacts to include in your teaching portfolio as well as ways to structure and organize the information. In addition, you’ll also find out how to present your portfolio effectively during a teaching interview.

Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

Looking for work that is intrinsically interesting and gratifying to you? The MBTI is used to assist individuals in identifying their personality strengths, preferred work environments, communication styles and career possibilities. While few occupations provide a "perfect" match between personality and work tasks, this indicator and workshop will assist you in making an informed decision. During the MBTI workshop you will complete a questionnaire and receive feedback, including a list of career fields toward which people with your MBTI type tend to gravitate.

Resumes and Cover Letters for Teachers

Note: This workshop is open to students and alumni in DePaul’s School of Education only.

This workshop takes you through the steps of creating an effective teaching resume. You’ll learn how to write a powerful resume that highlights your skills and accomplishments and promotes you as a strong candidate for a teaching or student teaching position. In addition, you’ll find out how to craft a persuasive cover letter that convinces school administrators of your qualifications for and interest in a particular teaching position.

Skills are the currency of the job market; you get a paycheck in exchange for the skills you use in your job. Strong Interest Explorer

This workshop is ideal for students who are undecided about a college major and/or for those considering exploring new career directions. Research shows a strong correlation between interests and job satisfaction. Insight into your interests can help you find work that is satisfying to you. Cooperative Education Orientation

Cooperative Education (co–op) is an exciting new program at DePaul that allows undergraduate students to gain high–level, real–world experience, and also earn income year–round. Co–op positions with major employers are part–time, typically lasting one or more years in duration. The orientations are open to all undergraduate freshman, sophomores, and juniors in Commerce, LA&S & CTI.

At this orientation, you will hear many of the benefits of co–op, including its inclination to often lead to full time employment after graduation. Learn how the co–op program operates, and understand the eligibility requirements. Current part–time co–op positions with major employers will be highlighted. To be considered for any current or future co–op positions, you must attend one of these sessions.

OCI Super Sessions include the mandatory OCI Orientation information and will feature an actual campus recruiter from one of the employers hiring DePaul University students and graduates. University Internship Program (UIP) Orientation

This is a prerequisite workshop for UIP and must be completed to earn Experiential Learning credit. The UIP Orientation provides you with the information you need to successfully enroll in ISP 250 and complete the Liberal Studies Experiential Learning Requirement. You’ll find out the meaning and purpose of the ISP 250 course, and how an internship contributes to your career goals. Finally, the Orientation helps you assess your level of career development and identify next steps.
