Hiring, Training, and Supervising Students

Learn how to start and train new student employees and discover tips on how to maximize your student employees' knowledge and skills.

To start and train new student employees, follow these steps:

  1. Review the Policies and Procedures
    Inform yourself about policies and procedures for employing students on campus. Learn about training opportunities for both you and your employees. Click here for important information about hiring international students.
  2. Complete all Paperwork in a Timely Manner
    All paperwork must be completed before the student starts working. Learn about the Student Employment Action Form (SEAF) and other necessary hiring paperwork.
  3. Ensure your Student Employees get Paid
    Learn about pay periods, view the payroll calendar, and review information on how to approve your student employees' hours.
  4. Provide a Departmental Training for Student Employees
    Gain tips on how to orient new student employees to your department and to their new position.
  5. Mentor and Encourage Student Employees
