Policies

As a DePaul supervisor of a student employee(s) you are responsible for informing your student(s) of the appropriate policies and are subject to all policies where "student employees" are included in the scope. Please review the University Policies & Procedures.

Please be sure to review the policies that are located under the Human Resources section, such as, Progressive Discipline, Attendance Smoking Policy, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), Drug & Alcohol Free Workplace, and Threats & Violence, and Student Employee Eligibility - Enrollment Status, Student Employment Eligibility - Work Hours and the Sexual Harassment Policy under Student Affairs.

Please also discuss all policies and requirements specific to the department with your student employee(s). If you have any questions regarding policies and how they relate to students employment, please contact a Student Employment Staff member in the Career Center (312-362-8437 Loop or 773-325-7431 Lincoln Park).

Work Hours

  • Students may not work more than 25 hours per week while school is in session.
  • International students may not work more than 20 hours per week while school is in session.
  • During holiday/school breaks and summer there are no hour restrictions. (International Students must first check with ISO before working more than 20 hours)

On-Campus Student Employment Eligibility

Enrollment Requirements

Only enrolled students are eligible for Student Employment. Students must be enrolled at least as a half-time status, defined as 6 credit hours per quarter for Undergraduate students; 4 credit hours per quarter for Graduate students; or 6 credit hours per semester for Law students.

International Students (F-1 or J-1 status)

International students must be enrolled as a full-time student (Defined as 12 credit hours per quarter for Undergraduate students; 8 credit hours per quarter for Graduate students; or 12 credit hours per semester for Law students. Full-time status may also be determined by a special program or academic department, such as the English Language Academy).
